Royalty Free and Licensed images explained.

Royalty Free Photographs:
Royalty free is a simple form of licensing and the price is determined by the file size. The buyer pays a one off fee to use the picture (They do not have to pay royalties to contributors on a use-by-use basis). The buyer will not know who else is using the image.

Licensed Photographs:
There are two ways to buy a licensed photograph Non-exclusive and Exclusive.
Non-exclusive
The buyer pays a license fee each time they wish to use the image. Another buyer can also purchase the use of the image under the same license.
The buyer must specify each time the images intended use, media territory and duration.
Exclusive:
The buyer pays a license fee each time they use the image and has exclusive use of it. This is subject to the terms of the license agreed to.
