Portrait Photography

So what makes me so different from your average high street portrait photographer?
The days of having to go to a large studio and have your picture taken in your best suit with a back drop of a nice forest or blue sky behind you have gone. The resulting pictures look staged and false. If your kids are included, they get bored, restless, and uncooperative. When you have finished, the hard sell from the studio salesman starts.

Well, I don’t have a studio! Instead I come to you to take your picture. Before the photo shoot takes place I need to know a little bit about you so I can make the pictures more personal for you and your family. For example, if you love to ride horses I would photograph you riding your horse along the South Downs or splashing through the waves on the beach.
In my photographs I always try to tell a story to portray the subjects’ character, the special something that makes them who they are.

Portrait photography tips and advice from Scott Ramsey

Choosing a portrait photographer: Some photographers will try to entice you by offering a free photography shoot. BE CAREFUL. Nobody works for free and you will normally find that there print prices are high to make up for it.
What to wear during a portrait shoot: Don’t wear black or white clothes instead choose more neutral colours.
Children’s portraits:
Before the day of the photography shoot tell the kids all about the photographer and show them his website. This gets the kids involved and will help relax them on the day. During the shoot don’t start telling them how they should smile or behave. Keep it fun and relaxed and let the photographer create is photographs. Always stay with your children.
Locations for the photographs: A small back garden with a lawn that needs cutting will challenge any photographer. Why not go to the park, beach or friends house.
