The Brighton Photojournalism Weekend Workshop
Dates: 18th & 19th August 2018
Location: Brighton, East Sussex, UK.
Cost: £250.00 per person.
My passion for creating stories and documenting life has been with me since I first picked up a camera 30 years ago, and for some time now I've wanted to share some of this knowledge. After months of preparation, I'm delighted to announce this summer I'm teaming up with my good friend and award-winning photojournalist, Glenn Edwards, and running a two-day photojournalism workshop in Brighton, East Sussex.
Held over the weekend of Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th August 2018, attendees will join us in the fabulous city of Brighton in East Sussex, England. The hands-on photography workshop is for anybody, amateur or pro, who wants to learn how to create storytelling photographs. The only thing you need is a camera, ideally a laptop and a passion for photography.
The weekend will be predominately practical with participants working on pre-arranged ideas in and around Brighton. To enable workshop attendees to get the most from the weekend places will be limited to a maximum of 12.
As well as the vibrant city we are pleased to announce the fantastic Brighton Thai Festival has agreed to be a working partner with the workshop so there will be plenty of photo opportunities for everybody’s interests over the two days.

He continues to work as a freelance photographer, is a consultant on photojournalism for international training NGO The Thomson Foundation and an HPL at South Wales University.
Attendees will have access to both photographers experience over the weekend
9.15am - 5.00pm: Located in the heart of Brighton at the Jubilee Library, the day starts with coffee and an introduction by Scott and Glenn showcasing some of their favourite images and discuss the makeup of the picture story.
Attendees will then work on their picture essay ideas, which they have either discussed before arriving or have been given by Scott and Glenn on the day.
We will split into two groups before heading off into Brighton to work on the stories before returning to Jubilee Library for a working lunch (see notes below)
The images taken will be downloaded and shown, critiqued to see how the work can be improved before each group will head out again to re-shoot any images if required and improve the work.
The day will finish back at Jubilee Library with a final download, photo critique and a discussion on how the day has gone for each individual.
After 5 pm – This Is your own free time to explore the city further or if you like you can join Scott and Glenn for an informal drink at a nearby coffee shop or bar.
8.00am - 5pm. An early start as we want to pack in as much as possible so it will be a quick meet up at a nearby coffee shop before heading back to work in Brighton.
After returning to Jubilee Library at 11am and downloading the morning's images, we'll grab a working lunch (see notes below) before watching short snip-its from the film War Photographer. A film on the work of photojournalist James Nachtwey.
The film will create a short discussion on issues that often confront a storytelling photographer.
After lunch attendees will have a choice to either continue working on their preferred project or try something different.
Scott and Glenn will be on hand to offer advice and guidance throughout.
The day will finish with a final download, edit and debrief before the weekend closes at 5 pm.
