Scott Ramsey

"I love exploring new places, discovering different cultures and meeting interesting people, but the one thing that drives me every day is my passion for sharing compelling stories. Behind the camera, I've met and photographed so many amazing people from royalty to the homeless. Now, in front of the camera, working as a presenter, I'm excited to continue the journey. There's a world full of amazing people with fascinating stories, and I'm on a mission to help share them. Life is for living; all you need to do is get up off the sofa, step outside your front door and start talking to people. After all, everyone has a story to tell and if I can help share these stories while having some fun, the odd cup of coffee and learn something new along the way even better."

Scott Ramsey is a moustache curling, coffee drinking photojournalist and TV Presenter based in Sussex, England.

He's a warm-hearted, inquisitive modern-day storyteller with a great sense of humour. Passionate about sharing stories from the world around him, Scott believes everyone has a story to tell and that his job is to help them share it. Just as at home in front of the camera as behind it, Scott's natural interview technique and friendly personality help to captivate an audience. One viewer posted "Scott has the ability to bring a story to life, I could watch him all day. This guy needs a TV-Show of his own"

Career Highlight

Scott's biggest highlight to date came in 2019 when he was hired by MBC, one of South Korea's largest TV networks, to present the UK part of a new worldwide travel documentary. The TV Show called 'Forbidden Alleys' featured Scott in a one-hour episode as he travelled to three UK cities, Brighton, York and London. Initially booked for just one location, Mr Lee, an award-winning documentary producer, liked Scott's on-screen personality and style so much he asked him to continue filming with him.

"The South Korean TV project became a real joint effort. Working with the producer, fixer and two camera operators was a great experience. Each morning before we started shooting, I would meet with Mr Lee to share some ideas. With his expert production skills and my ability to find a story, the episode was a great success. The entire team remain good friends to this day, and I hope to visit South Korea soon to see them all."

Recent Projects

Scott's always looking out for interesting stories, and even in lockdown during the current COVID-19 pandemic he managed to find a heartwarming story to share.

"It's great to be able to use my creative skills to share a heartwarming COVID-19 story from my home village. I discovered the story while out on my daily run, thankfully here in the UK, we are still allowed out for some exercise during the lockdown. Throughout the village, somebody had taken the time to post handwritten messages of hope on shop windows, noticeboards and bus shelters. I thought it was a great thing to do and so I created a video about it. The BBC picked up the story, shared my video and I was interviewed live on BBC Sussex Radio! So far, the film has had over 80,000 views, and I've received many messages from people around the world who have enjoyed watching it. It's fantastic that one kind act from a member of my local community can make such a positive difference and lift the spirits of so many. I feel honoured to be in a position to share the story and offer people whom I've never met a brief respite from the current situation."

It all started when…

Scott's passion for documenting life and sharing people's stories started when he first picked up a camera as a young boy. Inspired by his father, who was a photographer, and his mum, who loved to travel and discover new places, he left school at sixteen and became a newspaper photographer. He built a career as a news and documentary photographer and his images appeared in many of the UK's national newspapers. He was highly commended in two press photography awards and built a reputation for always being in the right place at the right time. Heck, he even photographed Prince Charles playing the drums once, but that's a story for another time!

Live Presenting

As the newspaper industry changed so did Scott. With the launch of live-streaming platforms like Periscope and Facebook Live, he saw a new opportunity. Utilising the latest technology, he started to take viewers on assignment with him. He shared interviews with circus performers, cancer survivors and Elvis impersonators. He took road trips around the UK visiting Cornwall, Devon, Kent, Sussex and Wales to find and share stories.

As his followers increased, so did the number of viewers with several of his live streams being featured and receiving over 40,000 live viewers per broadcast!

"Live streaming really helped me hone my skills. There's an art to filming your own content, interviewing somebody and reacting to live comments all at the same time. Live broadcasting is great fun; it keeps you on your toes as anything can happen!"

Travel Documentary

Off his own back, Scott started to create a travel vlog series called ‘Travels With My Camera’.

Using the theme of a photographer on an assignment, Scott set out on a two-week trip around Spain. Researching, filming, presenting and editing each episode single-handedly, he created the series. Whilst in Valencia, he visited the famous food market, Silk Exchange and interviewed a family of fourth-generation bakers in the heart of the old city. Viewers loved following his trip along the Spanish Coast, especially when he attended a traditional festival in the port town of Denia.

Radio Interviews

Away from the camera, Scott has also been interviewed live on several BBC radio shows. He soon built up a trusted reputation as an entertaining radio guest which resulted in him being asked by BBC Sussex to help launch a Photography competition live on their breakfast show.
