A Small Business Photography Shoot Case Study

James and his business partner Richard run a window cleaning company in Kent and required some photographs for their new website. The company called Ezy-Clean specialises in using a pole system to clean their clients’ windows and gutters. Working with James & Richard, I arranged to meet at one of their clients’ homes to get the photographs. I spent a day photographing the team at work, capturing every aspect of the services the business offers. Along with the "working" photographs I also created some business portrait photographs ideal for a "About Us" page of a website, which is exactly were they used the photos.

After the shoot, Richard & James had a great set of photographs to demonstrate the services they offer. The photographs I created were soon put to good use on their website. And there's a plus side. Unknowingly, they had also started their very own photo library! Now the guys have a collection of business photographs they can call upon at any time to use for their marketing needs or post on Twitter, Facebook or use in a blog to promote their business. A good staff photograph like this is ideal for a businesses "About Us" page on their website. In the photograph I used the logo on the side of the company's van and a low view point to make the photo more interesting.

After the windows had been cleaned it was important to get a photograph of how water is sprayed onto the glass.

Another photograph of the windows being washed using the pole system. On a shoot like this I try and get lots of different angles of the subject. This really helps web designers/graphic designers when they are designing a page as they have lots of shapes (images) to play with.

The business uses a pole system to clean the property rather than balancing on ladders. The system is very versatile and so it was important to show its many uses in the photographs.

As the fascia boards are cleaned I choose this angle to take the photograph from so I could include the lovely blue sky and add some zing to the photograph.

During the photography shoot we had some great weather with lots of sunshine and clear blue skies. Direct and hard sun light can sometimes be a problem on a photography shoot however on this occasion it was ideal.

Another service Richard and James offer is gutter cleaning. James required a close up photograph to show clients how its done. On this photo I used a telephoto lens to isolate the pole against the blue sky.

I like to create as many photographs for the client as possible on a photography shoot. It's also important that I make them as varied as possible. Luckily for us the property we were using for the photo shoot looked like a different house from the rear. Shooting around a subject really helps clients because (as in this case) it avoids all the photographs looking the same.

I wanted to show Richard using the pole system from ground level. So I asked him to clean the patio doors so I could create this photograph. I made sure to keep the back garden in the frame so future clients could imagine the work being done in their own property.

This final photograph of the day shows once again the patio doors being cleaned. I love really wide angle photographs as the distortion can make a really interesting photograph.
