Banging and chanting filled the air on the Eve of the Twelfth Night (5th of January) in the ancient village of Tarring in West Sussex, UK. 'Waes Haeil' was the cry as the annual Wassailing at Tarring awakened the tree spirits on a cold winters night. Green men, dancing, shouting and toast in a tree all part of this archaic ritual.

As a professional photographer often working in London and across the UK I'm lucky enough to meet some interesting people and visit some great locations. During a recent staff photography shoot in EC4 for a corporate client I had an amazing view across the roof tops of London.

Each year the Winter Solstice is celebrated in a unique way in Brighton, East Sussex. On the shortest day of the year (December the 21st) the city is filled with light and its residents are roused from their winter slumber as lanterns are paraded through the streets. Accompanied by loud drumming and whistles being blown the Burning The Clocks event awakens the darkest of winter nights.

It was a cold and frosty December night, as I headed to the Arundel By Candlelight Christmas event to take some photographs. Arundel is a small market town famous for it's medieval castle, antique shops and historic buildings. The River Arun runs through the town which is very popular with tourists and day trippers. Each year the Arundel Chamber of Commerce organises the Christmas event and supported by local traders the town centre is filled with Christmas lights, market stalls and  thousands of visitors enjoying the festivities. Is it Christmas already? What happened to the last year? Where did it go? Is that Father Christmas with a Gorilla? Don't panic Mr Mannering!  All will become clear soon enough. A few years ago whilst I was working for a press agency in Kent I was sent on a very important Christmas photo assignment to photograph Father Christmas delivering presents to some Gorillas at a local wild animal park. As Santa handed out the presents and I took my photographs I wondered to myself what does a Gorilla really want for Christmas…….?

It might have been raining and a bit dark last weekend however nothing could stop residents in my village turn on the Christmas Lights. I love Christmas time and photographing local communities and traditional events so I grabbed my camera to photograph the event.

I Love Photography! It's official, there you go. I've said it. I love a photo that tells a story, a photo that makes you think or enables you to experience something new. I'm always taking photos, I guess I'm a little obsessive. Even if I don't have my camera with me I'm using my iPhone. But it's not just about taking the photo that I enjoy. It's about meeting new people, talking, learning and discovering new things. I watch and listen. I talk and ask questions trying to find the story!

However much it rains and the wind blows, I don't think I would like to live without the different seasons of the year. Even though the days are so much shorter in autumn, the light can be great to work with.

Preston Park Velodrome in Brighton is the oldest cycle track in the UK and was built in 1877. I was surprised when I first heard about it as I have covered many photo assignments in Brighton over the years but for some reason never heard of the track. Researching it further and discovering its history I soon decided that it would make a great photo project. And so one lovely Autumn's day in October I visited the track whilst a charity cycling event called 'Pedal In Preston Park' was being held.

Happy Halloween! This year I had an idea. What if a character from a horror movie did a fashion photo shoot? Taking inspiration from cult horror movies and blending in the look of a high end urban fashion photography shoot my concept was born.,,,,, You are going to love these photos!

Littlehampton Traditional Bonfire Night and Torchlight Procession dates back 62 years and attracts thousands of people to the seaside town in West Sussex. It is a celebration of the anniversary of the overthrow of the attempt by Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators to blow up the King and Parliament on 5th November 1605. I have covered the event many times before when I was a local newspaper photographer, however this year I wanted to capture the people that take part.
